ALGISITE M is a sterile calcium alginate dressing that consists of a thick, highly absorbent pad of non-woven alginate fibers for the treatment of moderately to highly exudative lesions. ALGISITE M forms a gelled sheet upon entering contact with wound exudate, the excess of which is absorbed in this process. ALGISITE M uses the proven benefits of wound healing in moist environment, accelerating the healing process even in difficult-to-heal wounds. When ALGISITE M absorbs the exudate from the lesion, the Sodium ions in the exudate replace calcium ions, calcium from the alginate, thereby the fibers absorb the exudate forming a gel.
